Support Immigrant Rights in the U.S.

Congressional In-District Lobby Weeks, Oct 24 – Nov 6th

Currently, 2.1 million minors in the United States are deportable because their parents brought them to the U.S. without legal permission as children, and now higher education is almost foreclosed to them due to federal law that excludes undocumented students from the benefit of in-state tuition. Many of these students live in constant fear of detention and deportation if exposed to immigration authorities.

You are in a position to help.

Last year, with your help, the DREAM Act became closer than ever to becoming law. The legislation passed the House of Representatives and was narrowly defeated in the Senate. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is narrowly tailored to a population of student immigrants in the United States who arrived as children, have grown up here, and consider the U.S. home. The legislation would support rights of immigrants living in the US. With your help, we can build support for the DREAM Act and help protect immigrant rights!

We need your help to ensure that your Representative and Senators have the facts.

Your Representative and your Senators are likely to be in a district office near you some time during the weeks between October 24 and November 6th. Apply to coordinate a delegation to visit your elected officials. Or, join a delegation near you. Coordinating a delegation is easy, it will take a moderate time commitment to read materials, contact the office to be visited, practice the meeting and actually conduct the meeting. Amnesty International will give you ideas, training and tips to be effective.
